Addis Development Vision (ADV) work to improve the lives of children living with disability in Ethiopia. Without the help of ADV many of these children would never be able to attend school and would spend most of their lives at home reliant on others for support.

ADV supports these children in three main areas; access to education, care at home and vocational training.

Access to Education

There is a huge stigma attached to disability in Ethiopia which often leaves those affected isolated from society. ADV works with children as young as three years old ensuring they have full access to education in a non-discriminative environment. ADV also organise community-wide classroom education on the causes of disability to promote acceptance and integration.

Care at Home

By providing care and rehabilitation in their own homes ADV ensures children progress rapidly. The training they offer parents means that this work can continue at all times building each child the chance of a real future. Care work is also available at ADV's centre, giving parents and care-givers time for themselves. Carer's can also receive micro-finance from ADV in order to set up their own business.

Vocational Training

To open up the possibilities available to disabled youths, that otherwise may never leave their homes and become self-sufficient, ADV provides tailored educational support and a vocational training centre. Students can choose from skills such as sewing, leather work and woodwork, developing the skills necessary to make shoes, clothes and furniture. Many of the graduates start their own businesses upon leaving and others return to mentor new students.
